Madi Grows Butterflies

Written by Jennifer Chin

One day, Mrs.Pettaloo announced, "Class... We will be learning about Butterflies. You will each receive two of your very own Caterpillars. We will keep them safe and watch them as they grow into Beautiful Butterflies!" Madi was very excited!

Madi skipped all the way home thinking of what to name her fuzzy Caterpillars. Fuzzy Wuzzy, Inchy, ....hmmm what to choose?! Finally after much deliberation, it came to her. "Fuzzalina" and "Arnold" She just could not wait to get to school the next day and meet her new fuzzy friends.

When Madi took her seat Mrs. Pettaloo placed a small plastic container on her desk. Madi took a look inside. There was some green grass, a few twings, some milk weed and holes at the top for air.
Mrs. Pettaloo began to walk up and down the isles of desks, letting everyone choose two fuzzy wuzzy little caterpillars.

It was now Madi's turn to choose. She looked into the box and to her delight, she saw right away which two she would pick!! OH!! They were soooo cute!! But something surprising happened when the teacher placed them in Madi's hand. After all of the excitement and anticipation.... the caterpillars began to inch around in Madi's palms!

UGH!! Madi was so confused! This feeling was NOT delightful to her at all!! She dropped the fuzzy little creatures into their new temporary homes. Madi looked around her class room. All of the other children were giggling and letting their caterpillars scootch all over their hands and arms. Madi looked back at her fuzzies and thought.... No way was she taking them back out and letting hers do them same!! Just NO WAY!! She got the shivers and goose pimples just thinking about it!!

That night at dinner Mama asked, "Well how was school baby?! Did you get to choose your caterpillars today?!" Madi just looked up at Mama wide eyed! "Ya..." she said. Not sounding excited at all! Mama was a little confused. Her little girl was so excited the week before... "What happened baby girl?!" Madi looked a bit sad. "I don't like them Mama.", she said.

"Oh dear, why not love?", Mama asked. "I don't really know. They started to move in my hand and I couldn't help noticing their little eyeballs..they have six.. and they were moving..and just ..just Yuck! I feel so bad.", replied Madi. Mama explained that her reaction was normal and even though Madi didn't like the way they felt in her hands, it didn't mean she wouldn't enjoy helping them grow into healthy butterflies.

For the next several days Madi's class learned about their Caterpillars. They were Painted Ladies. Madi enjoyed feeding them and watching them move about their little cages. Then it happened... Madi came into school one morning and saw that her caterpillars had built chrysalises. Now there was nothing left to do but wait and watch.

Time ticked by, then a week and then another week. FINALLY!! The chrysalises began to break open. There they were!! Madi was so happy to see Fuzzalina and Arnold. Two beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies!!! She was excited again. She did it! She helped her Fuzzies become Butterflies!!

After two more weeks, the whole class took their butterflies outside and released them. Madi had such a sense of pride!! She watched Fuzzalina and Arnold fly away. "I sure am happy for the little fuzzies..but I wont be picking any up anytime soon!"

P.S.
If a butterfly ever lands on you, please never touch their wings. The oil in our skin harms their wings. Be nice to Nature.

Thanks for stopping by! See you soon.

Welcome!!

Welcome to My Blog!

As a child I really loved to read and Draw. When I grew into an adult and became Mama, I, unintentionally forgot how much I loved it. I always read to my girls. Even while they grew in my belly. I could tell they loved it too because they'd move like crazy. :0)
Recently, I was sitting in my living room and saw that my daughter had left her pencil on the sofa. Instead of telling her to come put it away like I usually do, I grabbed a piece of computer paper and began to doodle. It hit me!!! What have I been doing all this time?! HAHAHA... Um, being Mama!!
Being Mama means a million things! Even though I was busy and happy being Mama...It doesn't mean that that's all I am! Being Mama, if I don't chase dreams, what kind of example would I be setting for my 3 daughters?!
So here I am! Writing/typing my words on this Blog to share with you! Hope you enjoy!
